Information about Matthew
I pride myself on being a resilient, enthusiastic and versatile mentor to all students but especially those with additional special needs. I am familiar with the challenges associated with teaching ALN children and have a young child at home with autism, in which myself and my wife have fought our local LA and successfully attained a statement of needs.
Working with primarily children with ALN for over ten years, I always remain positive and calm under times of stress or conflict, partly due to having six children of my own and partly to do with working within a Pupil Referral Unit and different school units throughout South Wales.
Through work and education I have equipped myself to provide appropriate learning techniques for children with or without learning disabilities. My degree has prepared me for academic paper writing and researching.
I am a lifelong learner and thrive in new and exciting training opportunities; I also enjoy thinking of new and effective ways to explain learning material. I am successful at providing the structure special needs children require to flourish in an academic and home setting.
Working as an LSA equipped me with the positive attitude and patience necessary to teach special education and has given me extensive experience working with autistic children. Now I use the Catch Up education system teaching numeracy and literacy. Ive also recently passed the 120 hours TEFL course to teach English as foreign language.
Availability: I am available after school Monday to Friday so that`s from 16:30 until 19:30. And on Saturday and Sunday I work early morning from 9:00 until 12:00.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I`ve now worked in schools in and around Cardiff for over ten years, mostly concentrating on teaching literacy and numeracy at Kings Monkton School (the highest achieving independent school in Wales).
Before KMS I worked with children with Additional Leaning Needs in term time and also in the government run Play and Recreation therapy programs for children with disabilities.
I have six children at home that have all be subjected to tutoring from me at some point, voluntarily or not.
