Information about Briony
I have many years experience of working with young people: running youth groups, as a tutor and secondary school teacher and now as a parent. My hobbies include classical music and travelling.
It is important that the tutee is at the centre of their own learning, and I try to build sessions around their preferred type of learning, be that practical, visual or literary. My starting point is always assisting the student in identifying their own areas of weakness within a subject and building from there. I believe that spending time of key skills; exam technique, revision processes and mathematical skills in Science is equally important as subject content.
I adapt sessions based on obtaining regular feedback from students within the sessions to ensure meaningful learning and progress takes place.
Availability: Monday-Friday late afternoons/evenings
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have worked for the last 8 years in 3 different Secondary schools as a Teacher of Science and Head of Chemistry. All these schools have been rated outstanding or good by Ofsted. During that time I have witnessed how effective one to one sessions with students can be in accelerating their progress. I have chosen at this point in my life to move away from the school setting and dedicate my resources to one to one and small group tuition, whilst giving me more flexibility to bring up my family.
I have experience of one to one and small group tutoring with students aged 14-18 in GCSE Chemistry, Biology and Physics, as well as A Level Chemistry. I have had a number of highly satisfied students who have made remarkable progress, frequently exceeding their target grades. I would like to think that I go above and beyond to cater for the individual needs of my students, and in doing so assist them in acheiving their full potential.
