Information about Megan

Hi everyone.

I`m Megan. I am a Maths and science teacher at school rated outstanding by Ofsted. In 2016 I graduated from Durham University with a first class honours degree in my Master`s degree in Chemistry. After my degree that teaching was what I wanted to do so I did my teacher training gaining my newly qualified teaching status (NQT) and PGCE from Durham University. During my Chemistry degree a high level of mathematical skills were required and developed, I developed a love of Maths too as well as science.

About me: I have always wanted to help people and love being a teacher. I think it is the most rewarding job! I love the feeling I get when I see a student learn something new or experience a `lightbulb moment` when they can finally do something they could never before. I also love my subjects, my passion comes across straight away. I am so interested in the crossover between maths and science that I run a STEM club at school.

My tutoring style: I am approachable, friendly and relaxed. As a person I am very organised so my tutoring sessions are very structured too I provide students with many different tools to make as much progress as possible from a variety of worksheets with differing ability, past paper questions and quick fire mini whiteboard quizzes. I am calm and smile a lot. I believe mistakes are a way to learn so I never make any students feel bad for making a mistake!

I would be interested in tutoring at your home, at my home or online. Whichever suits you better. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more information.

Fourth year as a qualified teacher in an outstanding school
Teacher of Maths and science

I have a lot of experience teaching small group classes:
- I am starting my fourth year as a qualified teacher. During this time I have lead small group intervention groups. As part of my timetable I teach KS3 maths intervention classes for students who aren`t meeting their target grades. Every week I run GCSE maths revision classes with four students.
- During my second placement in my teacher training year as part of my timetable I ran/ team taught GCSE maths intervention groups of about 11 students who were not making enough progress during lessons.
- During sixth form I tutored two polish EAL students KS3 maths, in allowed them to access the work at a slower pace so they could access the maths curriculum at a pace that was appropriate for them. This allowed them to reach their full potential.
