Information about Hubert
Born and raised in London, I benefited from private tuition during my time as a school boy. As a student, I hugely valued the one-to-one attention of tutors, particularly in subjects which I found particularly difficult. As a GCSE student, struggling with Maths, I was fortunate to have an excellent tutor, who really helped me to achieve my best result.
After taking a gap year, I studied History for my BA at Oxford University (2008-11) and Historical Studies for my MA at London University (2011-12). I initially wanted to pursue a career in academic History, but subsequently chose to start tutoring A Level and GCSE students. Since 2012 I have tutored students aged between 11 and 18, primarily focusing on GCSE and A Level History. Since this time, I have worked for several different tutoring agencies[contact detail removed].
Over the previous eight years, I have also been privileged to work at two very different schools in the private sector. Between 2015 and 2017, I taught Religious Education at Downside School and worked as a form teacher for boys in Year 7. Between 2018 and 2020, I worked at Davies, Laing & Dick (DLD) College as a teaching assistant. At DLD, I was responsible for helping and supporting an A Level student with cerebral palsy on a day-to-day basis.
Outside tutoring, I enjoy long distance running, creative writing and learning foreign languages.
Availability: I currently tutor for another agency between Saturday and Monday, but I have availability for tutoring between Tuesday and Thursday. On the middle days of the week, I will be able to tutor between 10 am through to 7 pm.
Willing to travel: 30 miles
Experience: I have eight years` experience as a private tutor with 3 tuition agencies, with whom I tutored a wide age range of students. My tutoring experience mainly involved travelling to the houses of individual students on week day afternoons and evenings, spending an hour going over essay technique or covering relevant content. While I mainly tutored History, I also have a lot of experience tutoring English Language and Literature, Latin and Religious Education at GCSE Level as well as more junior levels.
My experience also includes voluntary tutoring of English as a foreign language at a school in rural India (September to December 2014) and English Literature at Paddington Academy (2015). Last year, I completed the CELTA qualification and have enjoyed the experience of teaching EFL to older learners.
In addition to tutoring and teaching, I also have experience with interview practice and technique with regards to university application.
