Information about Charles
Hi there! My name is Charles, and I am committed to delivering high quality tutoring/mentoring support for my students.
I have extensive tutoring experience. Having topped my school year at Sutton Grammar in both A Level Mathematics and A Level English Literature, I feel comfortable tutoring almost any subject to at least GCSE Level. In the past nine months, I have provided weekly one-on-one sessions in Physics, English, and History. I have also recently been appointed as a Visiting Lecturer in the Law of Contract at City, University of London, and will be starting my pupillage at a leading commercial chambers in October 2022.
I was the first successful applicant for Cambridge History from my school in well over a decade. I had limited support at crucial stages in the application process. Having made it through the interview, I was determined to ensure that future students had an easier path open to them than the one which I had had to tread. Working with staff at the school, I have provided extensive support to applicants for the past three years running personal statement sessions, reading classes, and mock interviews. Those strategies have worked. Five of my mentees have secured and met - Oxbridge History offers.
I enjoy working with young people to maximise their potential. As President of the Cambridge Union, I established and ran a learn to debate programme for local state school students over the Long Vacation. During my term, I worked intensively with the Promise Knight Foundation a charity encouraging BAME applications to Oxbridge. Further, for the last eight years, I have served as an Assistant Scout Leader in one of the countrys largest troops. In that capacity, I have coordinated an annual conference for up to thirty fourteen-year-olds teaching public speaking and other soft skills.
That extensive experience in tutoring, mentoring, and working with young people sits alongside a record of academic excellence. I was the highest scoring student in my History cohort at Kings College, Cambridge, winning two academic scholarships and the Jill Rickers Prize for my performances in Tripos. My MPhil thesis was chosen by my examiners to be stored in the Universitys Historical Library. Since completing my Masters, I have undertaken the Graduate Diploma in Law - generously supported by the Astbury Scholarship, awarded by Middle Temple.
Simply put, I have the academic record and the tutoring/mentoring experience to ensure that my students realize their abilities.
