Information about James

Hi, I’m James and I live in Oxford where I spend my time thinking about maths. While many students find maths scary, I am a firm believer that given the right help and support they can thrive and enjoy what I think is the most fascinating and exciting subject. I aim to offer thoughtful and encouraging tuition so that students can reach their goals regardless of level.

I welcome any messages about tutoring or maths in general so we can work towards a plan and understanding of what you hope to gain from tuition. I look forward to hearing from you.

Availability: 9am - 5pm weekdays and weekends.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: Being a DPhil (PhD) student at the University of Oxford, I live and breathe mathematics and have done so for as long as I can remember. I lived in London for five years where I completed a Master of Science in mathematics (MSci) at Imperial College London with first class honours and a Master of Research (MRes) in quantum technologies at University College London.

During my time at Imperial I tutored groups of first year undergraduates, helping them to understand the core content of the degree and giving them someone to turn to if they ever got stuck. I have also helped family members with their GCSE studies in both maths and the sciences. In the past, I have run a Rockschool which taught middle school students to play the guitar and was chair of the Imperial Guitar Society which offered free guitar lessons to university students.
