Information about John
My approach is to teach my students how to teach themselves. Show them ways to approach problems which will help them to successfully solve further problems.
But my approach is also to give them the intellectual study tools so they can find the information and skills they need to teach themselves. Thus, hopefully no longer needing extra tuition because their self confidence and innate ability has been revealed.
Then the wonders of the World await along many more possible future paths. My work history is different to most tutors, but it does show these young people how much fun and control of your life you can have if you study hard when it counts. They don`t know this yet, it`s an important lesson for them to learn.
Availability: Available afternoons, evenings. Tuition at my office is also available.
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: I studied Physics with Cosmology at London University`s Royal Holloway College. Gained a BSc with Honours.
After education I entered industry. With technology and techniques always changing, I had to self teach and also taught those around me as manufacturing became progressively more automated and technical.
After becoming a partner in a company and selling that company I became a self employed architectural Consultant and also professional Photographer.
Now I wish to give some of this experience back.
Tutoring Experience
I have now been tutoring for a few years with a record of improving student performance and their confidence.
Before that, I worked in industry. One of my responsibilities was to guide and educate university students who chose my company to do their work placement year.
I was also responsible for the development and introduction of new technology and equipment into my company. This meant being able to learn quickly and then teach efficiently.
I have also taught photography techniques to novices and hobbyists.
It is very rewarding to teach those who wish to learn.

Unfortunately my children werent very cooperative with having a tutor. He expects his students to engage with him which mine didnt He was very honest especially with my son and told us we were wasting our money I would recommend him but he expects his students to want to be helped
Tutors Response :
I do wish you the best of luck.
I hope your son realises that there is some merit in learning before he starts his GCSEs.
But his refusal to engage at school and his absolute refusal to engage with me in either of our lessons, I saw my efforts as futile and could not bring myself to keep taking my fee when zero learning was taking place.
So I hope some of the ideas I gave you work and his motivation changes before it`s too late.
Again, best of luck.

Excellent science teacher, very knowledgeable and explains things very well. My son learned a lot which really helped him in his work, and with his end of year test.
