Information about Tommy
I am a recent graduate in History of Art from UCL. I have great attention to detail and have a real desire to provide a wide understanding of the topics. I am very patient and will never raise my voice and will ensure the student feels comfortable with the challenges of the session and grasping the often challenging situation. I work for an educational charity called Hackney Pirates that focuses on getting kids to enjoy reading and become more confident in themselves. I enjoy working with kids and helping them feel ready for exams and the classroom.
Availability: I currently work part-time for my educational charity so I am flexible with availability so can cater it to the students needs.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: I have coached kids athletics throughout my time at school which was geared towards getting kids excited about running and being disciplined in their approach to preparation. I have volunteered with Hackney Pirates for the past year which functioned by having one-to-one reading with 9-12 year olds as well as working on a different creative project each half term. These projects could be writing a poem or developing a manifesto on leadership, it required allowing the child to think independently but helping them approach new challenges with confidence. Each session I will be paired up with different kids so I am familiar with adjusting to new types of students. I am often used to help other volunteers engage with young kids.
I have led whole classes at the Ragged School Museum every Monday since the summer. My role is to teach classes from ages 5-11 about the domestic life of Victorians in the poor parts of East London. As the children are at different educational stages i have to cater to specific class requirements. I have to be very knowledgeable about Victorian history and living requirements and I am immensely satisfied by the feeling of classes leaving with a real buzz.
