Information about Dan
I have been teaching for 16 years. I have a life-long passion for politics and an enthusiasm for inspiring young people to think about the important political issues that will inevitably affect their lives.
Availability: I am available weekday evenings and weekends.
Willing to travel: 2 miles
Experience: I am an experienced Politics teacher (current Head of Department) with a proven track record of taking students through the two-year course and onto success in their final exams; I am particularly experienced in UK and US politics, and political ideologies. I have worked in schools with large groups of Y12 and Y13 students, and also in the context of one-to-one home tuition. I have a strong subject knowledge together with a clear understanding of the specific writing skills required for A Level Politics such as essay structure, and analysis and evaluation. In the first lesson, I identify the strengths and development needs of the student. This is achieved by talking through their current level of understanding in conjunction with the course textbook, the specification and any work they may have already produced (if at all). This conversation would then result in an action plan for subsequent lessons. In addition, I use my own enthusiasm for politics in parallel with the key political `issues of the day` (which they need to know about to use as examples in essays), to inspire students to think critically across the topics in order to clearly grasp the key concepts that underpin politics.
