Sally

Hello there.

I`m Sally, a friendly, approachable tutor who listens to what you need in order to achieve. I have a wealth of experience teaching in both a primary and secondary setting. I take the time to prepare lessons and materials to suit your individual needs starting from where you are and then pushing on to where you want to be.

English is my specialism and I have been Head of English and/or Literacy in most of the schools I have worked in, including being a leading literacy teacher for Bournemouth Borough Council. At present, I am a writing moderator for BCP.

Age-wise, the majority of my experience is with Year 6, especially SATs and Grammar School preparation, but have taught Years 3, 4, & 5. I have also taught in secondary schools, with a focus on GCSE literature texts and written language.

Availability: At present, early evenings and various times during holidays to September 2025. From then on, I will have daytime slots too.

Experience: I have been teaching for 29 years, 17 years in primary, 7 years in secondary and now back to primary for 6 years. I have been Head of English or Literacy Co-ordinator in most of the schools at which I have worked and I was a leading literacy teacher for the local Borough which involved training other teachers and helping schools that were in difficulty.

I was heavily involved in grammar school tuition at one of the primary schools I worked at and we achieved the highest number of students accepted from one school over the years I was there.

I began taking private students 7 years ago to help with GCSE English exams which I thoroughly enjoyed. Through Tutor Hunt I tutored a girl in Year 7 and took her all the way through to her GCSE exams last year, which she passed.

I have lots of patience, especially if students find the work a little tricky.
