Information about Alex
I love one-to-one tutoring because I get to tailor my lessons to suit each student`s needs, personalising the content so that it deals with the areas which concern them the most, in ways that engage their individual interests. My after class reports make it easy to track your child`s progress and to encourage their improvement with the weekly homework I set.
I tutor across multiple exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC and Cambridge International. I hold a current DBS and a 1st class MA in English Literature from the University of St Andrews, and have over 4 years of tutoring and mentoring experience.
Between 2020 and 2022 my GCSE English Literature and English Language students obtained excellent grades with 95% obtaining a level 7, 8 or 9. My students sitting their A Level in English Literature also achieved excellent results with 90% obtaining an A-A* grade.
Availability: I currently have availability at 18:00 and 15:00 on Tuesdays.

Experience: I have improved my student’s grades on an average of 2.5 grade boundaries. My A Level students have moved up from Ds to Bs and Cs to As and A*s. My GCSE students have increased their grades from a 4 to a 7 and 5 to an 8. My KS2 SATs students have also achieved consistently high marks in reading comprehension, spelling and grammar. Through my teaching efforts in 2014 I raised the A*-B grade average for A Level English Language at Portsmouth College by 87.5%. Every one of my students have been able to fulfil the conditional offers of their chosen Universities.

I have been tutored by Alex for around 6 months now - in preparation for my GCSE`s - and I can confidently say that it has proved worthwhile! My writing has improved over these months and I can tell from the change in exam results. I would definitely recommend Alex to other students who would like to improve in English.

Miss Alex is a great tutor and I would recommend her to many students struggling with exam technique and content. She is a very organised tutor who puts a lot of thought into the presentation of her resources and focuses on exemplar answers, which has really shown me what I should be doing to get a higher grade. To add, Miss Alex is always eager to help with whatever you`re struggling with!

Alex is a fantastic tutor. Her friendly approach has really helped my son gain confidence in reading comprehension and writing in full, grammatically correct sentences. I am really impressed with the progress he is making which is clear to see in his recent test papers. After each lesson Alex sends me an after-class report which I have found immensely useful. I highly recommend Alex to anyone looking for an English tutor.

Alex writes notes that provide valuable insight into the texts that we are doing together, alongside being supportive and cooperative for my specific needs. She makes sure to incorporate and develop your ideas so that you aren`t just copying and pasting what she has told you but instead are drawing the knowledge from yourself, making it more memorable and personal. Overall, Alex is a lovely tutor and has benefitted me greatly!
