Information about Amy

Hi there! I`m Amy, a 4th-year student at the University of Oxford reading French and Spanish. I`d be delighted to offer lessons in person or over Zoom or Skype.

I use research-backed methods to help my students effectively and efficiently learn in an engaging way. I teach French, Spanish, English Literature and English Language from beginner to University-level, including Common Entrance. I`m happy to help students who are interested in learning French or Spanish from scratch at any age, or who are looking to learn English.

I got a high First in my first-year dissertation at Oxford on the literary representations of gender politics under Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo, and obtained 3 A*s at A-Level and Pre-U, with an A* in English literature (AQA), a D1 in Spanish Pre-U (= A**), and a D2 in French Pre-U (= A*).

Additionally, I successfully applied to St Paul`s Girls` School for 6th-form which I attended before Oxford (also obtaining places at Latymer Upper School and Godolphin and Latymer) and would be happy to help with applications to competitive independent schools. I can also help with applications to Oxbridge for French and Spanish or literature-focused courses, either as single or joint honours courses, working on admissions tests, interview prep, translation, or literary analysis.

Please do reach out if you have any questions about my experience, style or approach to tutoring or if you want to discuss a plan of action for your own tutoring or your child`s. Thanks!

Availability: I can be really flexible regarding timings for tuition this year as I am working and studying on my own schedule.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: Having received hundreds of hours of private tuition myself whilst I was homeschooled during my GCSEs, I have seen first-hand the immense benefits of developing a close working relationship with a tutor, and have engaged with a wide variety of teaching methodologies that make me adaptable, attentive and thorough. I am currently mentoring a few students applying to Oxford for modern languages and English, and in the past, I`ve taught students of a variety of ages and educational backgrounds, including non-native English speakers, and will adjust my teaching methods accordingly. I`m also happy to provide progress reports to parents after sessions and regular, informal tests to help consolidate learning :)

Outside of my studies, you can find me listening to country music or psychology podcasts, researching backpacking destinations, or gallery hopping.
