Information about Charo

I am a British citizen born in Lima, Peru. I used to live in Madrid, Spain for 7 years before coming to England, so I can teach Spanish from South America as well as from Spain.
I teach through games, songs and role play as well as following a book/handouts.
I have good administration skills from my previous Secretarial and Administrative jobs. Conscientious, friendly and accustomed to busy environments, I can adapt to new systems easily, responding well to a challenge.

My students know me as Charo, and I am a proud parent of a beautiful daughter who is bilingual Spanish/English.
As a native Spanish speaker, sharing the love for my language and culture has become my passion. I was born and raised in Lima, Perú where I attended Instituto “Las Toledo” school/college and earned my Bilingual Secretary degree.

I love teaching Spanish and I try to bring much of my culture into the classroom as possible. My students love to listen to music in Spanish in our class, learn about cultural differences and traditions, and have fun while learning a new language. I believe that a good education shapes not only minds, but hearts as well. And that by learning a different language and traditions -especially at a young age- can make students more cultural appreciative and incorporate that respect into their daily and future lives. My biggest joy is to see that self-confidence build up and put into practice when we role-play skits in our class, or when a student tells me that they were able to use what we learned in class and talked to somebody in Spanish!
Learning a new language can be intimidating, but I believe that my enthusiastic, cultural approach to teaching Spanish enables students to acquire language skills in a manner that keeps them interested and motivated.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband, an IT programmer, my daughter, who attend her second year at University of Manchester and our dog Lexie. At home we speak in English on weekdays and in Spanish on the weekends.
I also love cooking Peruvian dishes for them, watching Spanish films with my family and dancing salsa! By the way, my British husband is a very good salsa dancer!, a hobby that we share joyfully!

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I have over 18 years experience teaching Spanish to children and adults. I also have experience preparing kids for their Spanish GCSE. They obtained maximum grades in their exams.
Most of my experience as a Spanish tutor is teaching to my students in person, one-to-one or in groups, but since the pandemic in 2020, as most people, I use on-line technology to do so which I found as efficient as before but from the comfort of your home.
