Information about Olivia
I am a grate of the University of Leeds in Geology. I have A-levels in Biology, Chemistry, Geology and Maths.
I have had extensive experience tutoring both voluntarily and professionally.
I provide all the learning materials, give advice on exam technique and introduce a variety of different learning styles.
I create bespoke classes, adapting to the individual needs of the student and have experience working with children with learning difficulties.
In the first session I like to find out the areas of weakness, so as to focus on getting the best grade possible and maximise the use of the contact time.
If you are interested in hiring me or have any questions please don`t hesitate to contact me.
Availability: I am flexible to your needs, any Day time and evenings but not weekends.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: From the age of 6 I was teaching my younger autistic brother how to read, I discovered he wasnt reading the book but memorising it. That was the first time I realised you needed to check understanding as you were teaching!
I got involved in toe by toe, maths mentoring and summer school volunteer while I was at upper school. . I can help a lot of pupils, especially those struggling with traditional learning methods because I have been in their place and gotten through it.
I have a very interactive style of teaching. I like to foster curiosity and interconnectivity. I have had experience in two schools as part of a module during University. I created national curriculum compliant lessons with activities. I introduced the analysis of graph data via a worksheet I created. I had a summary page with simplified graphs and how to describe them and draw conclusions. I wanted to challenge them, so I gave them real NASA data. Within the workbook, I had exam style questions on the data that they had to work through in pairs, at the end of the lesson we went through the answers together. By the end of the lesson, 75% of the class could accurately interpret real data and draw conclusions from it. My experience was eye-opening, particularly in terms of the additional work required when being a teacher; progress reports, lesson planning, creating the resources, checking that the lesson flows and that it follows the National curriculum.
I took a training course in dealing with difficult behaviours, team-teach. I am now trained in how to deal with biting, positive behaviour management and the conflict spiral. I like to be the positive person who is always able to lift the mood of a group and help others get the best out of themselves, through positive encouragement.
My experience of working in schools and setting out lesson plans has given me a good basis to develop a range of bespoke activities for children with different learning abilities. My skills in creativity, interpersonal skills and flexibility make me a good and caring teacher.
I try to approach difficult concepts with analogies that pupils may relate to, as well as varied styles of teaching focusing on the different typed of learning (Audio, kinesthetic, visual). I want every pupil I teach to get to their highest potential, pushing themselves by thinking abstractly about problems and linking their other subjects to one another.
