Information about Sam
Born and raised in London, I studied History and Archaeology at the University of Southampton, with an additional certificate in French. During my time there I was part of a Cambridge-Harvard-Southampton expedition to Çatalhöyük, an ancient early-human city in Anatolia, Turkey, as well as the Southampton Skydive society! I didn`t skydive into Turkey, although I should have suggested it.
I work regularly in the film industry as a producer, writer, and director, and also have taught & tutored students for the Young Film Academy in skills related to my specialities.
In addition, I have conversational Spanish, having studied the language for some time after spending six months in Latin America five years ago.
Availability: Available during weekdays and early weekday evenings before 7:30pm. Only online during Covid-19.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: Having taught for the Young Film Academy from 2017-2019, I grew to be particularly strong at teaching writing, storytelling, camera-technique, acting, editing, and conceptual thinking/problem solving when it came to creating stories for the screen.
Previous to this I taught at the ELIM orphanage in Cusco, Peru, for two months in 2014, teaching English. The skills I learned there were related primarily to communicating when there is a language difference, which through conscientious listening and trust-building, I found to be almost a greater skill than merely learning the language.
I also taught a weekend workshop at the Young Film Academy in 2018 specifically for deaf students learning film, which used similar skills to those at ELIM. I really improved my abilities to communicate with young people in a clear and empathic manner, which enabled some fantastic films to be made during the workshop.
