Information about Tom
I am an enthusiastic chemistry teacher in my third year at St Pauls Girls School. I have been teaching KS3 Science, GCSE Chemistry and A-Level Chemistry to over 150 students since August 2017. I also run an introductory undergraduate chemistry club for those interested in pursuing chemistry to degree level, the aptly named Geek Club.
I graduated with a Masters in Chemistry from the University of Oxford, which included achieving distinction in quantum chemistry and a Masters thesis on chemical education presented at the Variety in Chemistry Education (VICE) conference.
I love Chemistry and Maths and have always had a passion for teaching. I began tutoring in my gap year after school and tutored throughout my time at university, particularly during my fourth year in which I tutored 7 weekly clients online throughout the year. This one-to-one tutoring experience, alongside my teaching experience and having recently been in the education system myself, puts me in a great position to identify likely problems and suggest simple ways around them.
I understand that Maths and Sciences are subjects that do not come naturally to some people, and am very patient when people get stuck. I have a real passion for the subject that I am eager to share - my aim is to provide a wider understanding of each topic and an all-round education of the subject. I also realise that science isnt for everyone, but science GCSEs are, and I am happy to provide exam technique and a more direct approach to passing these.
On a personal level, I`m a very sociable guy, having worked as a bartender in my local pub to raise money to travel the world and meet new people during my gap year. I regularly play golf with my friends, but also love football, rugby, cricket, tennis, squash, darts... The list is endless!
