Information about Liam

I am a friendly and enthusiastic linguist who believes that everyone can achieve in languages with the right attitude. I enjoy sharing my love of French and Spanish culture and language with others and love to travel and experience new cultures. I have lived in Peru and France and travelled extensively around Spain and Latin America gaining a wealth of cultural knowledge that I love to share with my students. I enjoy cinema and music from around the world and learning about particular language and cultural quirks from different countries.

I am a creative teacher who aims to use as many authentic resources as possible in my lessons. I have extensive knowledge of the GCSE and A Level specifications and having taught a range of ages and abilities can tailor make lessons to suit a learner`s needs and interests, whether that be exam success or practical language for holidays. I seek to use the target language as much as possible in lessons and try to develop a sense of independence in my students so that they are prepared for real life situations. I am very approachable and always encourage a positive atmosphere in lessons so that my students can have a go without worrying about making mistakes.

Experience: Having obtained my PGCE from The University of Manchester in 2012, I taught for three years in a mixed comprehensive in Sheffield during which time I taught a range of ages and abilities from Year 7 all the way through to A Level. I contributed extensively to the re-writing of the department`s schemes of work in Spanish, implementing many creative ideas and taking on sole responsibility for the GCSE French during which time the results improved by over 40%. I consistently was graded `Outstanding` in lesson observations and my creative and consistent approach to teaching was complimented.

Following this, I became Head of Languages at a boys Prep School in Sheffield, being fully responsible for re-writing a bespoke curriculum from Reception to Y6. In addition to my duties at the Prep School, I also taught GCSE Spanish at the Senior School achieving a 100% pass rate with many pupils achieving As and A*s. Throughout my time at the school, staff, parents and pupils alike all commented on the new found enthusiasm for languages across the school and the quality of teaching and dedication to language learning was commented upon by the school`s leadership team. During this time, I was also on the committee for the Association for Language Learning Yorkshire branch, helping to organise various training sessions for the region`s members.

Professional and approachable, Liam has had an immediate and positive effect on our sons French studies. He has helped and encouraged confidence and accuracy which is lacking in his schoolwork. Very pleased with our choice of tutor and looking forward to seeing our son improve and progress in the coming months.
