Patrick

Very experienced GCSE Maths teacher who now is available to tutor.
I strongly believe that every student who wants to can rapidly improve in maths once they start believing in themselves and wanting to.
My recipe for success is
1 get student believing in themselves
2 detailed analysis of their misconceptions and addressing these
3 constant repetition of skills once they have been mastered
4 targeted questioning that means students have to explain methods and hence develop deeper understanding
I would expect any student who I take on to do an hour`s work in their own time in preparation for the next session.

Experience: My results have been consistently good or better throughout my career as a teacher and a leader. I was Head of Department and on the SLT at Oxclose Community School where the percentage of students passing went from 27% to 70% in two years and continued to average at least 70% for my remaining 6 years there before I took on a similar role at Venerable Bede. Previously I had been at King George V school in South Shields where results increased just us dramatically. In my younger days I worked in a variety of schools in the USA and spent 5 years working in Los Angeles teaching and tutoring. Due to personal circumstances I had to relocate to Somerset in January 2017 and decided to just be a classroom teacher before returning North last year. I have always worked in 11-16 schools so very confident with all aspects of GCSE Higher and Foundation papers and misconceptions that need addressing.
