Information about James
I am a kind, outgoing and open individual. As a fully qualified teacher I seek progression and education for young people. I have an outstanding education (1st (1:1) Class Molecular Biology Degree - Oxford Brookes University) coupled with experience in the Life Sciences. As a Fully Qualified Teacher of Science, I am passionate about sharing scientific insight and developing scientific curiosity with students and supporting young people in attaining good qualifications for their future.
During my career to date, I have undertaken various positions in my Schooling Community. These include; (i) Teaching & Learning Leader of KS5 A-Level Biology, and (ii) Mentor for Trainee Teachers under the Milton Keynes Teach First/Schools Direct PGCE University Programme(s).
Availability: Weekday evenings and weekends. I am able to commute to your location.
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: I have 6 years experience as a Secondary School Science Teacher and YOU WILL HAVE ACCESS TO AMPLE RESOURCES, PERSONAL LEARNING CHECKLISTS, POWERPOINTS AND EXPERIENCE. I teach all scientific disciplines at KS3 and KS4 and Biology at KS5. I am highly competent in relating to young people in contemporary education. I have the essential experiences and skills required to help challenge and overcome the multifarious learning barriers young people may face during their science education.
I am aware that the GCSE Science curriculum has a high content and there can be insufficient school time available for students to fully understand core concepts within the Sciences. I help students to understand the key concepts of Science and then guide students to practise applying them to new contexts.
I start by reviewing students schoolwork, homework, school tests and personal understanding of their course to identify key areas to work on to improve performance and bolster confidence, self-esteem and promote resilience. My approach supports students in developing thinking skills and problem-solving which is an important part of succeeding. I also teach revision and exam techniques, where the understanding of concepts helps to make revision more effective. I am also available in the lead-up to exam time when extra support is needed for exam practise.
If youre interested in hiring me as a tutor, I am happy to meet with you first so you can determine whether I am the right person for the job. Together we can then determine what specific areas the prospective tutee needs assistance in. Once target areas have been established, I will use the syllabus, reference texts, past papers and a range of resources to apply my own knowledge and skills to improve the tutee`s grades.
I understand that different people learn in different ways, and will use the technique that works best for the tutee. The teaching approach can be personalised for specific individuals, a major advantage of one to one tutoring.

Feedback For James (6)
James is tutoring my daughter for A level Biology. She`s really enjoying the tutoring and likes the way James always asks her to send him topics for the next tuition session at least 1 day in advance. This allows then both to make the best use of the tuition time. I`ve no issue in recommending James as he knows his stuff and is a very likeable person as well
Tutors Response :
Hi Nilantha, I believe it is a shame that you feel it is necessary to rate me with 1 star when we did not even meet. I have again articulated below the reasons why we did not meet. I will be appealing against this feedback.
(i) you kept on insisting that I renegotiate fees and give you discount. Even after I explained that I was not prepared to do that.
(ii) I am not sure where we all stand with reference to me supporting your wife Anajli through her School Direct PGCE teacher training programme, which is accredited by Middlesex University. I am not sure if I and your wife would be breaching conduct of the course. As Anjali should be making her way through the course of her own accord. From being a mentor in the past for trainee teachers on the School Direct Middlesex PGCE Scheme, I believe this may be the case.
I am not prepared to risk Anjali`s progress and jeopardise her not being accredited by Middlesex University for her PGCE as she has asked for and received external support by me.
(iii) the way you spoke to me and shouted at me on the phone.
(iv) the fact that you are advertising on Tutor Hunt as a Father who needs support with a Y4 student, when in this instance that is not why you contacted me or the services/support you wished to require from me. Therefore the information you have stated on your profile is not factual.
Thanks in advance,
Great tutor, James has really helped our daughter with her GCSE science, often going the extra mile to make sure she has what she needs and is staying on track. Thank you James
James has been very helpful with my son`s A level biology studies. He explains things clearly, patiently and thoroughly. He also provides excellent packs of practice materials for each topic.
James has been working with my daughter to prepare for her AS in Biology. He is very professional in his approach, being well prepared for the sessions and tailoring them to the specific areas she requested. He was always happy to adapt the session and provide resources - I am very happy to recommend him.
James has really helped my son in the final preparation for his GCSEs. Not only have his predicted grades gone up but James has really helped him with his confidence as well.
James is a patient, knowledgeable and caring teacher and I highly recommended him.
