Information about Gemma

Friendly and approachable with a genuine interest in teaching and the subjects I teach.

I`m a recent graduate in History from the University of Cambridge, currently working for Churchill College. I am friendly, approachable and clear and have experience tutoring GCSE students in schools around Cambridge through Schools Connect, A Level Students privately, and have successfully helped students with Oxbridge applications. I am DBS checked.

I will be an ideal history tutor. Periods I have studied include early modern British political history (Elizabeth I, James I, Charles I, Civil Wars, Cromwell, Charles II etc.), nineteenth century British political and gender history (Pitt, Peel, Gladstone and Disraeli, etc.), medieval European history (c. 900-1500), Russian history c. 1870- 1950, the Cold War, Weimar and Nazi Germany. I have studied the history of the body c. 1500-1914, written coursework on magical conceptions of early modern disease and my dissertation was on the history of early modern emotions (melancholy) c. 1600-1800, making me an ideal tutor for `medicine through time` courses.

I can also provide excellent tuition for Biology to A Level, Geography to GCSE, help with fine art to GCSE level, and provide advice on Oxbridge admissions and university applications more generally (personal statements etc.).

I would prefer to tutor in person, but will tutor online if this is more convenient; I cannot tutor between 9-5 on weekdays.

Availability: Not available 9-5 weekdays.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: Tutor for multiple students in A Level History, 2018-19
Tutor for Oxbridge Admissions, esp. Interview Prep, 2018
Volunteer tutor in GCSE history for Schools Connect in Parkside Community College, 2017-18.

Gemma was great and extremely helpful during all of the time she was tutoring me. She provided me with a ton of advice and feedback for my interview. The sessions really helped me and they didn`t at all feel like study sessions, the whole tutoring took place in a really friendly and relaxed manner. All of this is evidenced by the fact that I got offered a place at Cambridge.

I would highly recommend Gemma!
