Information about Mark
I have over 15 years experience of teaching British Sign Language from Level 1 to Level 6. I thoroughly enjoy teaching BSL especially seeing my students developing their skills through the course. My students have given me good feedback and have had high pass rates averaging 94%. On several of my taught courses all the students have passed.
Being deaf and passionate about communication and hearing people learning BSL I am able to enthuse my students passion to learn. Understanding the obstacles deaf people face I able to educate my students to be culturally aware. Equally, I am effective at assessing students needs and obstacles to learning BSL so able on a one-to- one basis to teach them the necessary skills to improve.
Other areas I have delivered training in include deaf awareness training to businesses and one to one tutorials.
I am also a fully qualified A1 Assessor for all the levels in BSL and work with Signature the awarding body for BSL qualifications so understand the requirements to pass the courses.
Being a peoples person, I am quick to develop a good rapport with my students. Utilising these skills and with my varied experience I work to empower deaf people by also working as a Mental Health Advocate for deaf people. I have worked with deaf-blind people as a guide, in schools, and with companies in both the public and private sector.
In July 2011, I set up my own company, [contact detail removed], which puts educating people and removing barriers at its heart. Encouraging hearing people to learn BSL to make this world a more interactive place for both hearing and deaf people is very important to me.
In September 2019, I worked for a Deaf School in London as a full time British Sign Language teacher for children and all staff. I really enjoyed my challenge in a different environment regarding teaching at different levels from Level 1 to Level 6 in BSL with the awarding body of Signature.
Availability: I would be available any hours you need me to teach such as in Evenings, or Weekends as I have to fit this commitment around my working hours.
