Information about Joseph

I feel that while it`s important to teach a syllabus and ensure good exam results, the real value of learning mathematics and physics is in learning how to think independently and solve problems. In teaching maths and physics I emphasise the thinking process in solving problems and answering questions, rather than rote learning for exams. This focus has been successful, and helps students to maintain and even regain composure in exams those who rote learn for mathematics may panic when given a curve ball in an exam and forget everything they`ve learned, students who learn how to think can dig themselves out of any hole.

Importantly, I`ve found that very few students are inherently bad at Mathematics or Physics. Students often lack confidence or become frightened when faced with questions that seem hard or unintelligible from the outset. I`ve found that with just a small bit of encouragement and teaching, students can make considerable progress very quickly.

Aside from academia I am also a BASI licensed ski instructor having spent seasons in France and Japan teaching skiing to students of all ages and skill levels. I also harbour a passion for sky-diving, for which I am licensed by the BPA. To keep myself in shape whilst I`m not skiing or jumping out of planes, I play football in Hoxton once a week and go bouldering at The Arch climbing wall in Bermondsey every other day. I am also a published author for the Journal of Geophysical Research.

Availability: I am a full time tutor so I am very flexible with my working hours. I am happy to teach from mornings to evenings on every day of the week and weekends provided I am not already booked.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I have a MSci honours degree in geophysics from Imperial College London. I am currently a full-time private tutor, and have extensive experience teaching students of all ages.

I primarily tutor maths and physics up to and including A-level, in person and online. I am very knowledgeable in AQA, Edexcel, WJEC, and IB curricula and have access to a wealth of past papers, textbooks, and worksheets. I am also comfortable teaching geography and electronics up to A-level and other subjects up to Key Stage 3.

I am also a BASI licensed ski instructor having spent seasons in France and Japan teaching students of all ages and skill levels. I am also a published author for the Journal of Geophysical Research.
