Previous Student Success

As a tutor I have achieved 100% pass rate every year. All my tutees have achieved at least 2 grades higher than when they came to me. Many exceed in their achievements; this academic year alone I supported 2 iGCSE students to transition from grade 3 to a 9 in one term for their exams in November. My A Level experience enables me to stretch each student to their full potential. In addition, my experience as a GCSE retake Head of English at FE and Sixth Form Colleges has taught me the issues that make children fail or underperform in English studies and I have spent 20 years building strategies to enable my students to avoid this. As a teacher in colleges and as head of department, I achieved 25% or above on top of the national average pass rates for GCSE, 100% pass rate for A Level and was graded an outstanding teacher for the grade improvements of all my students every year. My students even awarded me their Most Supportive Teacher Award.

Qualifications

• PGCE in Post Compulsory Education and Training and a BA Hons in English and History. A Levels in English Literature, Geography and Sociology.
• Safeguarding Trained, DBS, insured.

My Service

I offer 1.1 sessions, group classes (please email me) and holiday revision workshops before the examinations and during the summer holidays.
I have seen a rapid growth in demand for my services. I am able to do face to face tuition, however if I am very booked up, I may offer you my online tuition service. ***Sept 2025 update- I now have online sessions only available.
I use a range of interactive software and have a portfolio of unseen exam papers written to GCSE standard by myself to ensure students are fully prepared for the unseen final exam papers.

Who am I?

I am known as a supportive, fair yet firm tutor who sets clear expectations and targets. I am also known to have a good sense of humour who makes connections between the English skills students are learning with their outside world experience, and aspirations, to make their new skills relevant. Yes- even learning Shakespeare and poetry can be linked to the wider world.
I am a parent to a now adult dyslexic son and have first-hand experience of how difficult it is to have learning difficulties and the strategies required to overcome the stress, anxiety, and frustrations it can bring. I also know how to convert these disadvantages into success- my son has gone on to achieve a 1st in his Games Technology Degree from Bournemouth University & is now a manager at work.

I am known for my creative writing ability, swimming in the sea and a love of learning and visiting foreign cultures.

Susanne took the time to listen to my daughter’s requirements, as she is autistic. Without hesitation she adapted the lesson according to my daughter’s needs . She is kind , caring and understanding.

Susanne is wonderful. She has gone above and beyond my expectations of a tutor`s responsibilities to understand my son`s current ability level with English and to work out how best to help him. Her clear communication with me has been a big part of this and I am deeply grateful for Susanne`s commitment and care for her student`s learning. Her lessons are engaging, creative and her sense of humour is an excellent asset to keeping teenage boys involved with the learning. Thank you, Susanne.
