Information about Lucinda
I am an enthusiastic and dedicated educator, qualified as a Secondary English Teacher and in English as a foreign language.
I have over three years of teaching experience, in the UK and around the world, and my diverse life experience gives me the ability to tailor tutoring to the specific needs of any student and make learning rewarding, productive and enjoyable.
I have expertise in literature, drama and oracy. I have in depth knowledge of the UK GCSE curriculum as well as A-level and IBDP experience. I have created my own courses in Asia, Africa and with students across all social and economic spectrums.
I have experience working with students with ADHD, autism and behavioural difficulties. I like to focus on developing students` confidence and critical thinking skills, so they can achieve the results they desire whilst engaging in the subject.
I am fun and lively and hope to inspire passion in the subjects I teach. I have a flexible schedule to accommodate your online tutoring requirements.
I look forward to working with you soon.
Availability: I am available for online tutoring. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have diverse teaching and life experience, meaning I am able to relate to students and build strong relationships.
I have taught at a variety of Secondary schools in the Manchester area in recent years, and so I have a strong knowledge of the national curriculum and requirements for GCSEs and KS3. I am able to support students up to A-level and IBDP. My degree in philosophy gives me a deep understanding of textual analysis and critical thinking skills. Most recently I was teaching and managing at a Pupil Referral Unit, which enhanced my ability to develop excellent relationships with both students and parents, and adapt my teaching for a wide range of student needs and behaviours.
I wrote an IBDP Theatre course during my time teaching in South Korea, and have delivered English lessons to students at several schools during my time there. This involved creative problem solving to teach students at different levels. This is a skill set I continued to develop teaching a variety of subjects at international schools.
I value voluntary experience and have taught at a school for street children in Ghana and Ukrainian refugees. I have volunteered beyond educational settings, including at homeless shelters, as a trustee for a charity, litter picking in Asia, and even at my local park run.
Before I was a teacher I was a successful hospitality manager in London, and I believe that my varied life experience makes me better able to understand people and approach tutoring with a creative approach.
