I am a freelance musician and tutor who graduated in 2016 from Leeds College of Music with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music performance, specialising in Jazz guitar. I have given guitar lessons to private individuals, children and adults within a beginner and intermediate level. Prior to my degree, I spent a year working in an East London Primary school as a teaching assistant for Maths and English as well as a one to one and group SEN tutor and a guitar and bass tutor.
I have found that teaching is an art in itself. I work to be the most effective in my lesson design by putting myself in the position of the student, and building on their understanding of concepts and exercises strategically, and in manageable chunks. I use a framework of prepared material and exercises based on the student`s level, but from this I respond to the student`s own interests and curiosities. I build on the exercises and song parts that students respond the most positively to and give them momentum. I am always gratified and pleased when a student finds enjoyment in learning guitar and their attention drawn in by the possibilities of the instrument. This yields progress, motivation and confidence in them.

Experience: I have several years` experience teaching guitar to both children and adults in platforms of online tuition, home environments, and within schools as a peripatetic teacher. I`ve been performing since 2014 in a variety of events and settings from restaurants and bars, to churches, weddings and functions in styles and bands ranging from blues and soul guitar duos and trios to gypsy jazz groups, and traditional jazz bands. I have been an effective bandleader and arranger for my own jazz trio as well as primary school ensembles.
I spent a year working at Barclay Primary school in Leytonstone, East London where I gained valuable experience through my roles as a teaching assistant and an assistant music co-ordinator. I taught individuals and groups in Key stage 1 and 2 English and Maths, one to one and small group SEN tutorials, as well as tutoring and musical directing in the music department.
