Mike

Mike bio: Mike grew up in Perth, Scotland where he began playing the clarinet at age 12. Both parents were Big Band enthusiasts and from this developed an interest in jazz. He took up the saxophone at 17 and played in the Tayside Big Band for several years. He was fortunate enough to receive early jazz tuition from the late Jimmy Deuchar (Dankworth, Scott, Hayes trumpeter) and played a few gigs with him in Dundee. After 6 years RAF service he settled in Chester where he played with the Bill Basey Big Band, the Blow Band, Art Blanc Combo and his own jazz fusion band Jazmyn. He attended South Wales jazz courses 1990-2 and has `sat in` with such musicians as Dick Morrissey, Alan Barnes and Bruce Adams. He moved to the Ipswich area in 2005 and began attending local jam sessions. He has also played with Cambridge based tribute band "The Floyd Effect". His main influences on sax are Charlie Parker, Michael Brecker, Stan Getz and Tubby Hayes.
