Information about Jonny
*Currently unavailable to tutor*
I am a qualified primary teacher with expertise in teaching English. I can make online tuition for pupils in Year 3 - 6 something empowering and enjoyable, far beyond test prep. It should develop them as readers and writers, broaden their horizons, develop their communication and foster imagination.
I am a passionate advocate for children`s literature and for children`s creative writing.
I run an organisation called OtherWise Education, leading writing networks for children and teachers, and also running poetry retreats. I am a former judge of the national Lollies Book Awards, championing humour in children`s books.
I am also a writer, and have written a book with Michael Rosen about teaching poetry in primary schools.
Availability: ONLINE TUITION
Flexible due to Coronavirus. Would prefer to work with pupils during `school hours`.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: Graduated from University of Cambridge in 2011, with 2:1 in Politics, Psychology and Sociology.
Became a teacher, and taught ages 7-11 at Elmhurst Primary School, Newham between 2011 and 2017.
Became Assistant Headteacher at Park Primary between 2017-2019, leading on the creative curriculum and achievement in Years 5 and 6.
In September 2019, I went freelance to develop my creative education organisation, OtherWise. I run writing networks, poetry retreats and pastoral projects with more vulnerable pupils.
Alongside all of this, I have developed teaching resources for specialist organisations including Just Imagine Story Centre, Wise Words Literacy and `On The Record`.
I have experience teaching 1:1 over many years. I tutored whilst at university, and between 2011 and 2018 I gave tuition to pupils at Elmhurst Primary who required additional support
