Information about Francesca
I have been a full time tutor in English Literature for the past five years. I have two degrees from the University of Cambridge, one in English Literature (2014), and another in Law (2002).
I absolutely love working one-on-one with students and I find it very personally rewarding. I keep students on track without distractions so that we can squeeze every bit of potential out of our time together, but also like to keep things light and fun so that they are engaged and look forward to working with me.
A bit about me:
As my two degrees might hint, I`m very passionate about learning and I love to convey that enthusiasm to a student. I`m good at putting a student at ease so that they can maximise their learning potential, whilst remaining focused and structured about achieving the goals we make together.
I have been awarded Highly Commended twice at the prestigious International Undergraduate Awards in the Literature category - my papers beat fellow students from the best universities around the world two years in a row. I presented my work at Google HQ to a global audience.
I have previously worked at an international development charity in central London, and as a copywriter. I currently write one day a week for a national Sunday newspaper. I have had my poetry published, write creatively, and run a book group.
Feedback:
(A-Level English) "Francesca`s tuition has been invaluable.
I came into tuition really struggling to see where I was going wrong and how I was missing marks in my essays. Her lessons gave me clear organised instructions looking at previous essays from a different point of view and breaking down a vague mark scheme into precise bullet points that I could carry forward into my next essay.
She had planned every lesson specifically for my needs spending a lot of time finding new resources and marking my work.
Each lesson went above and beyond the syllabus making me love the subject and find new interest in a subject I was struggling in.
My grades have improved massively, and by the end of the year my work was being given as model answers, something I could never have envisioned and all thanks to Francesca.
In addition, she was always flexible with time when I needed it, always at the other end of a text, and always wishing me good luck or asking how the exam had gone."
A level English - Malcolm:
"I have already gained a lot of new knowledge from Francesca. I highly recommend her.
She has impressive in-depth knowledge of the subject and I am very impressed. She has also helped me get my mind around essay questions and improve my essay technique.
She is a very approachable, friendly and punctual person. There was also no awkwardness in the first lesson which was a big plus."
A-level - Minna:
"You have been a great help with Minna and have picked up quickly what area she needs support in. It`s invaluable when a student enjoys the lesson and feels they can relate to a tutor, her enthusiasm is growing and that really was half the problem. We will definitely continue with lessons until her final A-levels, I am sure with your help she will achieve the grade she deserves."
Availability: I am flexible in my approach to lesson planning and try to accommodate my students. I teach Monday to Friday, both during the day and in the evenings, and also sometimes on Sundays.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have spent the last four years tutoring full time in English Literature and Language, with undergraduates, at A Level and at GCSE. I have helped more than 40 students achieve their potential, with a minimum increase of two grade boundaries. This summer one of my students student went from a U at A level to a B in the course of 8 months; another from a C/B to an A*.
I intensively coach students for applications to Oxbridge, both for the entrance exams and the interview itself. Every student I have worked with has had an offer and has gone on to achieve their grades for Oxbridge. I have a unique insight into the interview process, having been through it three times for three different subjects - all three applications resulted in an offer.
I also work for the regulatory body Tutoring Standards, interviewing prospective tutors who are trying to attain a professional tutoring certificate.

Francesca was an outstanding tutor for A level English. She had high expectations for my daughter, helping her to achieve an A* following C and B grades in mock exams. My daughter did weekly timed essays as homework following each lesson and Francescas thorough and knowledgeable feedback helped her no end. In addition my daughter really enjoyed the tuition.
