Information about Christopher
Described by a senior tutor colleague as having a "calm nature and approachable personality", I seek to motivate tutees by giving the subject context and relevance. Believe it or not, maths can be both interesting and fun!
In addition to working with individual tutees out-of-school with a view to enhancing both their confidence at tackling the particular challenges that maths presents and their enjoyment of the subject itself, my recent (and current) experience includes working in-school (a large secondary in Bristol) with pupils who are perceived to be borderline candidates and who are thought by their subject teacher as being likely to benefit from a year`s one-on-one focused tuition in Y11 in the run-up to GCSE. I take time to get to know my pupils, to understand their strengths and weaknesses, and to tailor a course of work best suited to their specific individual needs. This is kept under regular review, modified to reflect progress and tested periodically by reference to past papers.
Availability: Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm (and occasionally evenings by prior arrangement). I currently have (some) availability during the summer vacation and into the early part of the new school year.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I act as a governor to two schools in the area, one in Bristol and the other in Stroud. As such, I am closely and directly involved in matters of oversight and curriculum and take a particular interest in the teaching of maths. Although I do not teach in either of these schools, I am a visiting tutor to a large secondary school in north Bristol where I focus on one-to-one tuition for Y10 and Y11 students in preparation for GCSE.
