After successfully completing my A-levels in English, French, Sociology and General Studies in 1998, I began my BA in Humanities (English and History) at the University of Lincoln. I completed my degree and immediately began training to become an English teacher in Nottingham, completing my PGCE in 2002. I began my first teaching post the same year in a girls’ grammar school in Lincolnshire where I taught A-Level English Literature and GCSE Language and Literature, whilst also becoming an examiner for GCSE and A-Level Literature. I then moved back to Lincoln where I worked as a Teacher of English, Head of Year, Head of English and Lead Practitioner for English and Literacy. I was responsible for curriculum development as well as literacy and reading, and was awarded the qualification of Specialist Leader in Education. During this time I also worked for exam boards delivering CPD to teachers, supporting them to teach GCSEs and A-Levels in the most effective way. From 2018 I helped many young people and teachers re-discover their passion for English as Trust-Wide Subject Lead working with eleven schools nationally, whilst also working towards my Master’s degree in Senior Educational Leadership. Over my career, I have worked with young people from a variety of backgrounds and levels of prior attainment and am passionate about the positive difference education and particularly English and reading make to the lives of young people.

Experience: Having taught English for over 20 years, I am now a Trust Director of English, Senior Examiner for two exam boards, a tutor, and co-author of two educational books: ‘Succeeding as an English Teacher` and ‘Doing Middle Leadership Right’.
