Information about Clare
I am a professional composer, trumpet player and freelance music teacher based in London. I teach a range of musical disciplines, including:
Composition
Academic Music (Primary to Degree Level)
Music Theory
Sibelius
Trumpet
Piano (Beginner)
I have a first-class BMus degree in Music from Royal Holloway University of London and a Masters in composition from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where I graduated with a Distinction. I also attended the Purcell School for Young Musicians during A Levels and achieved A*AA (Music, Maths, Physics).
I am passionate about music education, particularly in providing an opportunity for students to compose, create music and find their own unique artistic voice. My aim in teaching is to equip students with the musical tools and techniques in order to help them perform, compose and make music effectively and creatively in their own individual way, where the skills learnt can build confidence and inform other aspects of their lives. I have a flexible, patient and interactive approach to teaching tailored to the individual needs of the student, where I am happy to teach those who would like to learn for pleasure as well as for graded exams and formal study.
As a composer, I have recently completed a Composition Fellowship at Guildhall School of Music & Drama. My music has been heard on BBC Radio 3 and performed by ensembles such as London Philharmonic Orchestra, EXAUDI vocal ensemble, Plus-Minus Ensemble, and Psappha Ensemble, and performed at venues including Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall (Southbank Centre), The Place, and Milton Court Concert Hall. I also love collaboration, where I have worked with writers, visual artists and choreographers on numerous projects, including a collaboration with a writer on a commission from the Barbican to compose a site-specific opera, performed in May 2019 as part of the Sound Unbound Festival.
Availability: Available weekdays, evenings and school holidays. My schedule is generally flexible, so please enquire if you are interested in lessons.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have experience teaching in a wide variety of circumstances throughout my career so far, from group musicianship/music theory lessons, workshop leading and whole class teaching, to one to one composition and music lessons. I am happy to teach student(s) of any age and ability, from children to adult learners.
