Jack Ledger-Dowse is a professional composer and music tutor specialising in composition, music theory and academic music study. A First Class Honours graduate of the Royal College of Music, he works across concert, film and television, bringing real-world musical experience into his teaching.

He supports students across a wide range of levels, including GCSE and A-Level Music, ABRSM Music Theory, developing composers and adult learners. Lessons focus on building strong musical understanding and practical technique, helping students approach exams, coursework and creative work with confidence.

Students have achieved excellent results in ABRSM Music Theory, GCSE and A-Level Music, composition portfolios and entrance preparation, with many progressing to leading UK universities and conservatoires.

Availability: Availability is flexible throughout the week, including daytime and evening lessons. Sessions are typically available Monday to Saturday, with Sundays reserved as a non-teaching day.

Experience: I have over six years’ experience teaching music privately, working with students across a wide range of ages and abilities. This includes regular support for GCSE and A-Level Music students, structured preparation for ABRSM Music Theory (including Grades 5 and 8, with multiple distinction results), and dedicated tuition in music theory and composition at a range of levels.

I work both with students preparing for exams and with those developing composition more independently, helping them build strong technical understanding, stylistic awareness and creative confidence. I have also supported students preparing for university and conservatoire entry, including guidance on composition portfolios and entrance requirements. Several students have progressed to study music at leading UK universities and conservatoires.

My teaching experience includes working with blind students and those with additional educational needs (SEN), adapting materials and approaches to suit individual learning styles while maintaining high academic standards.

Lessons are delivered both online and in person.
