Information about David

A good home tutor will build confidence; giving reassurance through guided organised thinking and rigorous practice. The tutor must demonstrate to the tutee that their engagement will lead to success. It`s always the tutee`s engagement and practice that makes the most difference. My role is to guide, encourage and support that engagement.

My name is David and I am a Home Tutor of Mathematics from primary up to GCSE level.
I am a former Assistant Learning Leader in Mathematics. I turned to tutoring in 2015 after 20 years of teaching Mathematics and English in local schools. Since then I have successfully tutored around 60 tutees ranging from 4 years old to 42. Around 65% of these have been GCSE students. I have comprehensive experience of Tutoring the 9-1 GCSE curriculum in Maths. GCSE pass rates for 2019 were 100% with 9 students meeting, and 5 students exceeding their school target grades.

At our first tutoring session I will make a rapid but comprehensive assessment of your tutoring needs and then offer a programme of proposed sessions aimed at the topics required to achieve your target grade or level. Specific and appropriate resources will be provided, discussed and promptly marked with regular feedback given on your progress and current level. Advice and resources for study between sessions will also be provided giving you your best chance of attaining your goals.

Availability: My tutoring days are: Monday, Thursdays, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, (times by arrangement).
Please note: There is an additional travel charge of between £2 and £7 for road distances between 4 and 15 miles from Purbrook.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: 14 years teaching Mathematics to GCSE level in successful local school.
6 years Head of English at a county school for pupils with moderate learning difficulty.
1 Year teaching GCSE resits and adult evening classes at a local college.
4+ years, so far, as a full-time Home Tutor.

David is an exceptional tutor, I had a huge amount of work to do in a very little time and he was incredibly helpful in organising lessons. His tutoring was fun, engaging and easily memorable, and it would be a pleasure to learn with David again. I can’t recommend David strongly enough

Great tutoring of my niece, engaging, supportive and really encouraging - been able to help her with new maths approaches in areas where she has struggled.
