Information about Emmie (michelle)
I am a trained specialist in multi-sensory teaching of maths and English (and assessment) for Special Educational Needs. Although my methods are designed to address the needs of Dyslexia and Dyscalculia, they are also a fun way for all students to learn. I have a patient, calm personality and love to celebrate the successes of my students.
I am happy to collaborate with schools to encourage steady progress - which is usually much appreciated by students` teachers and parents. I issue termly plans and reports to share with your school. I also visit many schools to teach children during the school day - which is another option to after school sessions.
I also teach: English KS3 to GCSE (AQA and EDEXCEL); English Entry Levels 1, 2, 3 and Level 1 and Level 2; science and maths to end of KS3 and Art & Design to A Level.
Availability: 9.30 am to 7 pm Monday to Friday. 9.30 to 5 pm Saturday (term time)
10 am to 3 pm during holiday times
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: I have 16 years of experience of delivering classroom teaching (a mixture of state and private sector positions in primary years Year 3 to Year 6). I also have 25+ years experience of supporting students with Special Educational Needs, in both one-to-one and small group situations, in the subjects of mathematics and English (English Year 2 to GCSE), mathematics from Year 2 to Year 9. I am up-to-date with the curriculum requirements for all the year groups to GCSE.
I am a multi-sensory teacher, which encourages understanding (particularly with mathematics). Multi-sensory teaching involves using apparatus for students to manipulate in order to understand the material being taught. It is also a great way for students to demonstrate their knowledge by showing each stage of the process. It is a fun way to learn and enjoyed by most students.

We have just had our first introductory session with Emmy. My 9 year old daughter and I both found her to be exactly the kind of patient and friendly tutor we`d been hoping to find. She sounds like someone who will give structured, useful feedback and I`m hopeful that her experience with helping kids who struggle will make a real difference to my daughter`s self-belief and understanding in maths.
