Information about Tricia

Hello! Thank you for looking at my profile! Based in Mold, North Wales, I am a qualified secondary school teacher, with 44 years of teaching experience, who makes learning great fun for learners of all ages and abilities! I have a qualification in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) (February 2015) and am outgoing, warm and friendly, with a good sense of humour. I am respectful, tolerant and non-discriminatory.

I have worked within a variety of different educational settings, with learners of all ages and abilities from different backgrounds and cultures, meeting a range of individual needs and enabling learners to acquire a broad range of skills, knowledge and attitudes:
*Learners whose first language is not English.(Lithuanian, Syrian, Romanian, French, Pakistani, Sri
Lankan, Polish, Afghan, Ukrainian)
*Children from pre-school to secondary level.
*14 -19 year olds, and adult learners, within Further Education.
*Students preparing for and studying within Higher Education.
*Parents
*Unemployed young people.
*Adult learners from the traveller community.
*Young men on probation.
Learners at every level have difficulties with reading, interpreting and writing English and I empathise with the way this can really affect confidence and the ability to learn, so it gives me a real buzz when I can help people improve and see their confidence increase. I am patient and resourceful, intuitively knowing whether or not learners understand, and can relate to the difficulties they have and concerns about admitting them. I find alternative ways to motivate and get information across so that people are able to understand.

TESTIMONIALS:

A: - Mature Student:
"I would not hesitate to recommend Tricia. She has a structured approach to achieving learning objectives and a calm, friendly and encouraging manner. She tailored her lesson content so it was relevant and made a huge difference to the confidence and ability of a mature student in a short space of time."

Z. - Absolute beginner:
"My teacher Tricia is very nice and kind. She always smiling. She have good sense of humour. All lessons are very interesting,if I cant understand something she is explaining for me not only with words, she can take of her sock and use it for learning. She always have full bag of different new things to show me and to learn new words. After 1 year my English get much better, all my friends and colleagues now saying that I talk to much!"

P. - 10 year old:
"Tricia is the best tutor I ever had! She is really nice to me when I’m learning. When I have tuition with her, she always teaches me a new thing in English every week. Rarely she is not here due to illness or gone to somewhere as a holiday. She is like my class teacher but only coming once a week. I enjoy my lessons with her. I learned skimming and scanning, inferring meaning, reading critically, etc. from her. These gave me a load of intelligence: since she has been teaching me I’ve got an A2 in my English rather than C3. She uses different coloured pens to make my lessons fun rather than using just one pen to make the lessons dull."

V. - 13 year old:
"I like Tricia`s lessons when we do Quizlet because I understand and it is very helpful too. The other lesson I like is prefixes. A prefix goes on the beginning of the words to change their meaning. I like this lesson because l understand it well. The most enjoyable lesson I like is when we highlight the words and write it in the coloured pen because I can see it clearly."

I am very pleased with the tuition I`m getting from Tricia, she is an excellent tutor. Each week she has the lesson prepared and structured for me and she has boosted my self confidence. I would highly recommend her.

Tutors Response :

Ah thank you very much Marian! I really enjoy our lessons - your sense of humour enable us to have fun and laughs! It is a pleasure to teach you because of your enthusiasm for learning and your openness to having things explained to you: the rules of the French language, English grammar - where helpful and relevant - and devices for helping you to remember.

Tricia is a thoughtful and hand working tutor. Her preparation prior to tutor sessions are excellent. Her structured and organisational skills are first class. She has helped my daughter to make sure her notes are structured and organised and easy to follow. I would certainly recommend this tutor for anyone requiring a balanced and highly efficient tutor.

Tutors Response :

Thank you soooo much for your very positve and thorough feedback Carla. I`m so glad I`ve been able to help M. She made it easy with her very proactive and `hands-on`approach and her willingness to listen, `take on board` feedback and suggestions and learn from them. I wish her luck with her future plans! Tricia
