Information about Kassra

Chemistry Graduate from the University of Nottingham (BSc) with Industry experience and 2 years tutoring experience. Teaches Chemistry A level and below. Also does Maths and Biology GCSE.

My approach is to work with every individual in a way in which works best to their strengths. Some people learn best by listening, some by writing and some by watching others. Once the best way has been figured then we will establish what the student’s goals are and tailor a plan to the timescale of how far away their assessment is. I will focus on giving the student an actual understanding of the subject, rather than blindly memorising key words and processes like the education system teaches. My aim is to also show how interesting and fun the subjects can be and to teach science in a way which people understand why we use this in real life rather than just simply teach them exam paper questions which can be very dull.
I use molecular model kits and visual aids extensively as for science subjects I believe it is very important to be able to clearly visualise in order to know what is happening and it has been proven that visual learning increases information retention and focus. I also believe that the simpler things can be put the better, I aim to teach science in a way that is not overcomplicated and intimidating for people who it may not be their strength.
I will also set homework and encourage students to learn and think independently.
When we are closer to the exam date, we can focus more on exam techniques and past papers and how learn to get the maximum marks out of a paper. It was only 5 years ago when I sat my A levels so I understand from a student and a tutors perspective where the schools get it wrong and can provide the relevant teaching in order to fill the gaps.
I can also advise the students on their personal statements and help them with their interviews for university and/or work experience as I have been there and done it myself within the last 5 years.

My final aim will be to help students to lose their fear and gain more confidence. I encourage everyone to ask questions even if they think it is a silly question. These lessons are the time where making mistakes and ask ``silly`` questions are ok as it is the only way we will be able to turn weaknesses into strengths.
