Information about Steve

I am offering an online music theory tuition service.
You will only need a computer with a skype connection plus microphone and sound (no webcam necessary).
Lessons will be conducted via a skype audio call, using screen-sharing, presentations and Sibelius software.
I have prepared 25 modules covering music theory up to grade 5 standard, and this will be backed up by examples using Sibelius music notation software plus specially prepared exercises.
I can teach how to read music from scratch, or help prepare for a music theory exam or help you to improve sight reading/sight singing.
Frequency of lessons, subject matter and pace of learning are completely flexible and can be tailored to your specific needs.
I am confident I have the knowledge to comfortably cover music theory up to grade 5, as I have informally studied music theory for many years, passed music theory grade 8 with merit and composed music which was recorded by a professional symphony orchestra (Brno Philharmonic).
My approach is relaxed and friendly.

Availability: Very flexible. Please contact to discuss.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I am relatively new to this, which is why the cost of lessons is low. However, I am confident I can teach effectively as I remotely trained overseas staff to do many complex work functions in my former IT career, using telephone calls and screen sharing which is a very similar approach to what I now offer.
I have also taught music theory face to face.
My music knowledge has been built up over many years through playing instruments at a good amateur level and through self-taught composition, backed by formal study up to an advanced level.
One of my proudest achievments was having two orchestral compositions recorded by the Brno Philharmonic orchestra.
I have passed grade 8 with merit for music theory and saxophone, and also passed exams in violin (grade 7), singing (grade 5 merit) and piano (grade 5).
I have attended music courses at Dartington International Summer School several times and have experience in playing in non-professional orchestras (violin), a symphonic wind band (saxophone) and a saxophone choir.
