Information about Jon
As well as being a husband, and dad to 4 amazing young people, including a midwife, student medic and Oxford graduate, I am also a keen dog lover, and am blessed to be owned by 4 gorgeous dogs. Ask me about them, and I`ll keep going for ages!
I`m a huge music fan, and would tentatively call myself a metalhead (but I`m very much housetrained, I promise). However, I am also just as comfortable listening to some of the less poppy current sounds, or some of the modern composers such as Jean-Michel Jarre or Mike Oldfield.
When I can, I try to develop new skills. During the past 6 months I have taught myself the Rubik`s Cube, and now have a collection of around 40 different cube based puzzles - with only one that I`ve not managed to solve!
Overall, I try to be a laid back, chilled person, and through tutoring, I get to share my love of the subject with others, hopefully passing on a bit of it as we learn together. I had a terrible maths teacher at school, and as a result, I learned to become much more reflective and empathetic. Let`s work together and make maths happen!
Availability: I am available every evening, and potentially the weekend. What I do need to share is that I am not the kind of tutor that sets a timer as I walk through the door... if we need to spend a few minutes extra during a session, then as long as I do not have another appointment, we will do just that. Additionally, if things come up between our weekly sessions, get in touch via any method and I`ll try to help however I can.
Basically, if you are interest, please do get in touch - if it is at all possible, I will do what I can to make it happen.
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: I graduated from Westminster College, Oxford, in 1997 as a primary teacher specialising in Maths and RE. After 9 years, I felt that I wanted more of a personal challenge, so, after spending a short time in supply teaching, I began working in secondary as a maths teacher. Since then, I`ve worked with all ages and abilities, and have enjoyed success right from a year 7 nurture group up to year 11 set 1 children. I think that one of the things that makes me a little different to some secondary teachers, is that through my primary experience, I developed a much more pastoral and caring approach to my work.
In 2019 I started working as an Edexcel examiner. This is, I believe, not only a great privilege to be at the cutting edge of marking year 11 papers, but also provides a deeper insight into what exactly the exam boards are looking for, which I can then pass on to my tutees... after all, the final exams are a game - if you can work out how to play it, the possibilities are endless!

Great tutor, very patient with excellent teaching style. Maths no longer a chore.
Jon has been working with our daughter for a few weeks and her confidence has already increased massively. Jon can make learning fun and she looks forward to his sessions. He is always on time and his feedback emails after each session are a great way of seeing how our Daughter is progressing.
