Information about Eva

I am a qualified maths teacher with more than 11 years of tutoring experience and I completed my PGCE at UCL IOE which is ranked no. 1 for Education in the world. I have been involved in numerous activities connected to maths and learning in general such as volunteering work at [contact detail removed], my work at Mathematical Institute or a pioneering project Open Badges which very simply put concerns recognising and rewarding achievements, especially in an educational setting. Therefore I have a good grasp of different forms of and approaches to both teaching and mathematics.

Lately, I have also been involved in a number of edtech projects which has helped develop my teaching practice further, especially in regards to using technology in more innovative ways to enhance learning which has proven useful in my online tuition in particular.

Availability: I am fairly flexible and can do most evenings/weekends as well as during the day some days. Currently, I am most free on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but due to the nature of tutoring, this can change quite quickly so please contact me with the days and times that suit you best and I am sure we will find something that works for both of us.

Experience: I have been tutoring (mostly) maths since 2012 and completed teacher training at UCL IOE as well as several placements in local schools. While my PGCE has undoubtedly given me the most knowledge in the latest educational research, I studied the module Mathematics Education already in my undergraduate, giving me a strong foundation in maths pedagogy that I have been building upon ever since.

Regarding my tutoring experience in particular, my tutees have ranged from KS2 up to A-levels and adult learners, with majority being A Level Maths and Further Maths, IB and GCSE students, and included both struggling students and the ones in the top of their class (and everything in between). Thanks to this broad variety, I found I have the ability to express myself in at least as many ways as I have students and can thus tailor the lesson plan to a learner’s needs, enabling them to reach their full potential.

My approach:
There is no simple way to describe my approach to tutoring - it varies widely and depends upon the individual tutees, what works for you might not work for someone else and vice-versa. However, I always make it a point to explain the material in such a way that person really gets a grasp of what stands behind the formulae and therefore has no need to blindly follow a method that he does not understand. I do get that maths in particular often seems like just a chaos of numbers and weird rules for a lot of people; that`s why I always put an emphasis on drawing the connection between the wondrous (albeit often confusing) world of mathematics and reality and how they coexist in a perfect harmony. It is my hope (and according to my past tutees a fulfilled one so far) that my explanations not only transform that chaos into perfect order but also show that maths can be very useful for everyone and even fascinating!

I needed a small boost in M1 for my retake in 2018 and with help from Eva I went from a D in 2017 to a B in the resit. Very patient and understanding.
Would definitely recommend for mechanics.
