What my students have said...

Lisa H., Mother of a Science GCSE student:

"Jamie was punctual, friendly, well-prepared and organised.

...His tutoring style is upbeat, supportive and encouraging.

.... I would not hesitate to recommend Jamie."

Diane R., Mother of a Chemistry GCSE student:

"The feedback from Rose is that she was able to substantially progress in her understanding and that James was able to explain the more difficult concepts in a way that was very helpful to Rose. Certainly, Rose thought the sessions had been very beneficial."

Emily H., Mother of Maths/English 11+ ISEB student:

"Jamie has been tutoring my 10 year old son Felix this year leading up to Felix`s entry into year 6. Jamie is always punctual, polite and extremely personable.

He and Felix laugh together whilst working on tasks and I think this along with Jamie`s guidance has helped to increase Felix`s confidence immensely.

Furthermore, Felix`s grades in his school report this year reflect an increase of understanding in both English and Maths.

I would personally recommend Jamie as a tutor and I think that he has a natural ability to bring out the best in both adults and children."

My Approach:

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. As a brief introduction,I am a full-time, professional tutor with an approach that has helped students of all abilities reach their full potential. I specialise in teaching Chemistry and Physics to pupils preparing for GCSE, A Level and other high level Science qualifications. In addition, I have acted as a mentor to students applying to Oxbridge and other leading UK universities.

My focus is always on each individual’s needs and in this way I have helped numerous students make sense of subjects that were previously a mystery to them. Both parents and pupils alike have described me as ‘enthusiastic, ‘passionate’ and ‘inspiring’ – a reflection of the energy and professionalism I endeavor to bring to all of my sessions.

There are several key principals essential to successful private tuition that I use as a guide for all my sessions:

1) Strong student-tutor relationship - Every student has their own individual needs and effective communication is the first step to helping them.

2) Baseline assessment – At the beginning of any placement you must establish the starting point how much does the student already know? This does not necessarily mean setting a test or an exam.

3) Structured programme based around the relevant curriculum - Both the student and parents should know what the aim of the sessions are and how we will get there.

4) Adaptable teaching methods – Original and creative techniques are key to helping students understand what are often very difficult, abstract topics.

5) Positive learning atmosphere - Tutorials should be enjoyed and learning can be an incredibly rewarding and interesting activity. Mistakes are absolutely acceptable and an integral part of the learning process.

6) Regular, honest feedback - It is important that the student and the parent both entirely understand how much work there is still to do and if we are on track.

I find that the most successful tutor placements are when I am able to build a long term understanding of the student and their needs. As such, I offer the first session free of charge to all prospective students.

If you have any questions queries or would like to schedule a session, please don`t hesitate to get in touch.

I look forward to hearing from you.
