I am head of religious studies at a top performing Grammar School in the South Manchester area. My department performs consistently well above national average. I teach students from 11-18 with a particular focus on A Level. I am currently teaching AQA A Level Buddhism, with an additional focus on philosophy and ethics, but am versed in subjects beyond these three areas.

Students generally continue to read Medicine, the sciences, English Literature, philosophy and theology, as well as other subjects that usually require extended writing. A number of students apply to Oxbridge and are successful I am willing to help in prepping for applications to such universities to study philosophy, religion(s), or theology.

I would expect the student to have textbooks relevant to the course, with my role being to provide supplementary techniques, resources and homework to add to their learning. Due to time constraints, it is best if I focus on the more complex topics and I ascertain what the student can learn without much guidance from a tutor. This would be done in the first session, with the final few sessions bringing everything together.

I used to be higher education coordinator, and Head of Sixth Form whilst the incumbent was on maternity leave (two years in total) and therefore can support students with university applications and reading personal statements.

Availability: I am available most evenings, mon - thurs being the most appropriate times.

Experience: I have taught at a grammar school in the south Manchester area for the past 12 years, and was promoted to Head of Department in 2015. I specialise in Christian ethics, and philosophy, and an academic study of Hinduism and Buddhism up to A Level. As I am currently teaching Buddhism for A level, I would say that this is my specialism but can offer techniques that may be useful for other religions. Quite often, it is the structure of the essays that students struggle with, so this is a main area of focus in my teaching.
