I have been teaching maths in secondary schools for 5 years and have been Head of Maths for two of these years at a large international school in Shanghai.

I would describe myself as hard working, adaptable, friendly, organised and dedicated to the learning of my pupils.

I decided to pursue a career as a Maths teacher after the fantastic experience I had teaching as a volunteer in Ghana and Cambodia in 2012, shortly after leaving university. I realised that education is about empowerment. It should provide pupils with the right knowledge, skills, attitudes but also confidence to help them succeed.

Mathematics is a subject I love and excelled at in school, so I was motivated to inspire students to enjoy Maths, a subject that is often negatively perceived. I believe the skills that are embodied in Mathematics, such as logical thinking and problem solving, are just as important as the content. Every child is different and so the relationship you form with pupils should be different. I enjoy using activities in my classes that promote discussion and discovery.

I aim to build pupil`s confidence by viewing maths as building blocks. Often pupil`s struggle because the prior knowledge is not understood well enough to move to the next step.

Experience: I have five years of teaching experience; two in Southampton, UK and three in Shanghai, China where I was Head of Department at a reputable international school in a team of 14 maths teachers for two years. I have tutored online for 4 months as part of the online learning carried out after the school closure. All timetabled lessons moved online. I have taught GCSE mathematics, iGCSE mathematics, iGCSE additional mathematics and Standard Level IB mathematics in the classroom and online. Previous to this, I have tutored IB Standard Level mathematics.
