Information about Harry

I am currently a second year undergraduate at King`s College London studying History. I have A-Levels in Economics, Government and Politics and History, all at A* grade. These subjects are the main focus of my academic interest and such I have maintained current knowledge in all three despite leaving secondary school over two years ago.

History is my main strength and it is a subject I love. I am capable of teaching students studying a wide range of events. My strengths are areas of history I have studied formally, however, my knowledge ranges far beyond these core areas. In particular, 17th century Holland, the post war USSR and Merovingian France. My specialties include:

Germany from 1792-1945
The United States from 1492-2016
Britain from 1500-2000
Europe in the Medieval period (400-1500)
European and world warfare from 1792-1945 this includes, The Napoleonic Wars, Colonial Warfare, Wars of German and Italian Unification, the First World War and Second World War
Ireland and the Northern Ireland Conflict from 1500-2000

I have studied most topics to some level of detail currently offered on the A-Level curriculum. I am able to assist with both GCSE and A-Level exam preparation and coursework which, at A-Level, is increasingly similar to a university style academic essay. I can teach source interpretation, a particular scourge of the A-Level student, both with materials from their own course but also materials from periods they may not have studied to ensure they can develop their skills of analysis and discussion.

Politics is interlinked with history on many levels and, as the focus of my degree has been on the modern history of Britain and America, I can provide not only the institutional and functional background but also a wealth of modern examples. My diverse knowledge of the subject is sure to add to a pupil`s understanding of the subject and I hope could stimulate their interest in pursuing the subject at degree level. My experience is mainly of the United States and the UK however I also have comparative knowledge that includes the Government and Politics of India, Japan, Canada, Australia and the European Union.

I have studied Economics, both macro and micro, at A-Level and again my breadth of knowledge of contemporary examples is extremely useful in understanding the subject. Through the use of real world case studies I am capable of contextualising most macro and micro theories, which can at first glance be difficult to comprehend. My theoretical knowledge ranges from the basics of demand and supply to monopoly markets, oligopolies and perfect competition. I am perfectly able to teach up to A-Level but my understanding of economics is theoretical. Subjects such as game theory I will teach through applied theory rather than with mathematical models.

Availability: I am available most weekdays, however I am unable to teach on Fridays. I can teach during the day or after school, whichever is more convenient. I can also offer online tutoring.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: For a year I volunteered as a teaching assistant at King`s St Alban`s in Worcester where I supervised students from years 3-6.

In addition to this I volunteered at Nunnery Wood Primary School, also in Worcester, where I assisted children for a number of years with their literacy and numeracy skills.

I have also worked as a private economics tutor for a family friend for three months before his final A2 exam. During this time his overall grade improved from a D in his mock exam in January to an overall grade B at A-Level with two resits.
