Information about Rebecca

As an experienced, qualified teacher, I deliver tailored support to suit the progression needs of the students who I coach. As you would expect, individual sessions are planned and progress monitored via careful and on-going assessment. I aim to make learning as enjoyable as possible and motivate my students by setting tasks that quickly build confidence to enable more challenging work to begin. I also work hard to build a rapport with the students I tutor so they feel comfortable to take the risks that good learning requires. I combine tutoring with English teaching commitments in schools and for community based projects. I specialise in supporting 14-18s to achieve grades that reflect their potential through effective exam preparation. I also mark for the AQA exam board. I am happy to provide tuition at my own home or the student`s.

Availability: Weekday evenings apart from Monday. Some availability during school hours.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I have a first class degree in English Literature with Sociological Studies as a minor and a PGCE in secondary English. In addition to being an accredited marker for GCSE English with the AQA exam board, I have ten years` classroom experience teaching children and adults in English, English literature, sociology, psychology and health and social care. I have extensive experience of preparing students for both GCSE and A level qualifications as well as preparing them for their next step, whatever that might be. I have specialised in teaching the study skills that are so vital to learners` ability to achieve their potential. In addition to the above, I taught and managed an Access to Higher Education programme for adult learners. As well as my teaching experience I also have experience of developing the curriculum, mentoring less experienced staff and writing teaching and assessment resources. I am used to working with learners right across the ability spectrum, including those with additional educational needs such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADD. I also have experience of working with students whose first language is not English and have supported undergraduates to develop their academic writing skills.

5/5 Rating

My son has just got his GSCE results back and he did well in both English Language and Literature with a Grade 5 and 6 respectively. We were so pleased for him and in Literature that is two grades higher than the school expected. More than this Rebecca`s insistence on our son reading the question correctly and her in depth knowledge of the AQA marking scheme helped him tremendously. Her warm and methodical approach is just what was needed to encourage my son into having the confidence in his exam ability. I would highly recommend her and have already recommended her to my friends daughter who is taking her GCSE`s next year. Thank you for all your help and support Rebecca.

My son has only had an initial session so far before the Christmas holidays hence only 3 stars but we will be starting lessons from the new year. We are happy with Rebecca`s professional but engaging approach and look forward to posting an updated rating as his sessions progress.
