This is my third year formally tutoring via this site but I have tutored informally for a number of years.
I tutored five students in GCSE maths in the most recent academic year - two pupils in year 10, one in year 11 and two mature students who resat the exams this June having left school a few years ago without the qualification. Mature students are just as welcome as younger students - I have helped mature students at work and tutored a few through HNC/HND courses. So if you are rusty, a bit lost at work, resitting maths GCSE, whatever your reasons and whatever your needs, I can help!
I also tutored three students at A level, two at AS level and one at A2. In addition, one of my GCSE students did Additional Maths this year. I now prefer tutoring at A level, having initially specialised in GCSE. Max (my A2 student) and I had a lot of fun going through all the past papers on C3, C4 and S2!
I am a graduate of the University of St Andrews and a recently retired Government Statistician. I have degrees in both Applied Mathematics and Statistics and a lot of experience in learning/teaching/mentoring etc gained in my career as a statistician (at the Office for National Statistics).
I have also tutored informally outside work, with my own children and friends/colleagues.
My approach to tutoring focuses on the exams (past papers etc) because that is the objective - to do as well in the exams as possible. But it would start with an assessment of where the student is - their strengths and weaknesses, how they learn etc. The key then is to put together a plan for the individual and then monitor progress against the plan.
Availability: I generally tutor during the week, any time from say 4pm to 8pm.
I am available during the day as well if that is more convenient.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have a wealth of experience in learning/teaching/mentoring gained in nearly 35 years as a Government Statistician. I have a lot of experience in lecturing/presentations and communicating difficult concepts in a way that aids understanding. I have even presented key Government statistics live on television! I also regularly coached/mentored members of my team through the in-house statistical training course (O/A level).
I have also tutored informally outside work over the years, with my own children and numerous friends and colleagues. I started tutoring more formally when I retired nearly 4 years ago.

review(s) for Harry.
Fantastic tutor! Harry helped me with GCSE and A level maths for an entry exam (which I`ve just passed!) and nothing was ever to much trouble. I`ve always struggled with maths, failing in school at GCSE level but Harry has a great way of explaining things and at times when I couldnt get my head around something, he would find another way to explain the concept.
My only regret is not having him there years ago when I was sitting my GCSEs.
Harry is an excellent tutor. He helped me through my A2 year of Maths (C2, C3, C4, S2). I would recommend him to anyone! His great teaching style and excellent notes made me feel 100% prepared for the exams I sat! Absolutely excellent!!
Needed a tutor for my year 10 son. Harry is very patient and my son enjoys his style of teaching. Would recommend.
Lovely gentleman who has made my 14 year old boy feel comfortable and relaxed while learning.
