Information about Annette

Teaching Experience:
I am a qualified primary school teacher with a Bachelor of Education (Honours) Degree and I have 10 years` in-service teaching experience.

I have taught in both Key Stages 1 and 2 and have experience of working as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Leading Maths Teacher and Advance Maths Centre Teacher. I have experience and understanding of the range of pupils` academic abilities and the challenges pupils face and how best to engage them in their learning.

For the past 15 years I have been fortunate enough to be able work in the tutoring sector with students from Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 in Maths and English. I have prepared pupils for end of year KS2 optional SATs, Year 6 SATs and Grammar School entrance exams, as well as guiding pupils through their transition in to high school. Up until 2015 under the old grading system, all my pupils secured Level 4 in their Year 6 SATs tests with some having gained Level 5. Under the new and more challenging SATS grading system my students have scored at least 98 or higher with 100 being the pass mark.

I was a volunteer Parent Governor at my own children’s primary school for 7 years. This role provided me with the opportunity to use my skills and experience as a teacher to support the school effectively. Within the same school I worked closely with Year 6 pupils and their teacher as a Maths booster teacher. I was employed to work with small groups of students, working on the new Maths curriculum (from 2016) in preparation for the new SATs. Their pass scores overall were excellent.

In the past few years I have also taught Maths to Year 2 and Year 3 pupils in a local primary school on a part-time basis.

Tutoring style:
My approach to private tutoring is dependent on the individual pupil`s personality and needs. I work hard to boost a pupil`s confidence in their own abilities which builds strong foundations for future independent learning. I am extremely fortunate to have made great friendships with the families I have worked with over the years. Every success my pupils achieves, in both our tutoring sessions and in their school setting, is something I actively celebrate and build upon. When working with children, I believe the most important things is to celebrate their achievements, no matter how small they may be, as these successes become the building blocks for their self esteem, confidence and future learning.

My sessions are structured and planned following on from the previous lesson`s outcomes. I try and keep the sessions relaxed and enjoyable. Each session will often start or end with a fun game to reinforce a pupil`s understanding of a topic.

I currently only able to tutor in my own home or online.

I offer my first session for free.

Annette is amazing, my son absolutely loves his time with her. She has helped him to build his confidence and she totally understands him, which in turn makes him feel valued and part of a team. She is fantastic x x

My son had his first session last week with Annette and to be honest, I explained exactly to him what she would be doing `helping him to make things easier at school`. Annette opened her door, with a big smile and straight away, Oliver was put at ease and so was I. I could tell they were going to get on. Initially Annette telephoned me prior to the session starting and we discussed at length how she could help him, what was his strengths and weaknesses and what he struggled with. I picked Oliver up from his session, he was beaming, ear to ear. He raved on about how many stars he had, what he was been awarded and how well he had done, how phonics made sense. Annette had achieved her first goal, giving him confidence. The feedback I was given was so reassuring and I felt proud. Oliver that night read his reading book, where sometimes he would guess words, read his book without any errors and with ease. The next few days saw him go up a band in his reading and excelled in areas at school he had previously struggled with. Oliver is so looking forward to his next session and said he felt `she made things make sense to him`. I can`t wait to see what the next few weeks/months brings. I have already recommended Annette to friends. Thank you Annette.
