Information about Matthew
I am a highly qualified and experienced English teacher, having taught all abilities in English Language and Literature in secondary schools for twelve years. Passionate about literature, I have plenty of experience in raising the achievement of students whose confidence and enjoyment in English is lacking. My teaching skills have been added to by a two-year stretch as Head of Department, developing the curriculum, and trying to find ways to help all students succeed, according to their own abilities. My usual method of working is to arrange a diagnostic session with the student, ranging widely over the skills and knowledge relevant to the subject, and, on this basis, to recommend a series of sessions aimed at raising levels of engagement and enthusiasm in the subject.
I am familiar with all exam boards, and communicate clearly the strategies necessary to succeed in GCSE or A levels. If you would like to, you can arrange a diagnostic session, for which there is no charge.
Availability: Mainly weekdays 4-8pm, but I will try and be flexible where possible.

Experience: I have been a classroom teacher in Surrey secondary schools for twelve years. I have professional qualifications teaching and in school leadership, with experience of running a large department. I am fully CRB checked.

Matthew has been teaching English to my son in preparation for his GCSE exams. Matthew`s lessons have always been interesting and engaging and really helped my son to better understand different type of texts and how to approach the exam questions. As a results, my son writing and his analysis of texts have sensibly improved and so has his confidence. I think Matthew is a very good teacher and I have no hesitation to recommend him.

Matthew is an extraordinary teacher, blending his passion for the subject with remarkable patience, making each lesson a delight. Our daughter, who is not a native English speaker, attained top marks in her English Language GCSEs under his expert guidance. We simply cannot recommend him enough!
