Experience: I have over 20 years experience teaching and tutoring English along with teaching and supporting children and young adults with special educational needs.For 10 years I taught English in Greece and on my return to London I spent several years in a large secondary school teaching English up to GCSE and also specialising in special educational needs and catch up interventions. Since coming to Devon six years ago I have worked in various primary and secondary schools and a large local FE college. I am also CELTA qualified and have tutored children and adults for whom English is an additional language for recognised Cambridge qualifications. I have a successful track record of improving outcomes and have worked intensively to develop strategies to improve confidence and literacy skills. I believe that every child can achieve by breaking down barriers to learning and so encouraging students to believe in themselves and reach their full potential. I work to the learning style and pace of each individual and can tailor each lesson according to the needs of the student. As I have worked across all the key stages I am aware of what areas of knowledge are needed to take forward and I can develop revision strategies and organisational skills along with the student to enable them to retain information more easily. Besides English, I also have experience in improving creative writing skills and supporting History, Religious Studies, Sociology and Geography at primary and secondary level.
