I love teaching and have extensive experience of tutoring in-person and online.

My core approach:

Focuses on developing a real grasp of the key concepts central to the course of study, including homework support and ample practice to refine exam technique.

Provides a safe and supportive atmosphere where no question is too daft and the focus is constantly on the journey towards achieving the best possible results in exams and coursework.

I have a wide range of resources which can be used as informal between-session homeworks or simply provided for enrichment beyond those provided at school.

Outside of my tutoring, I work in geology/Earth Science. My academic specialisms are in palaeontology, sedimentology and structural geology. I currently teach in Earth Science and Evolutionary Biology at the Open University, and run field courses with Birkbeck College (Univ. London). I`m also in the process of writing up a PhD on the tectonics and palaeontology of central Greece.

Availability: I have general availability in the evening and at weekends.

I started tutoring in 2009 and have been an associate lecturer in Earth Sciences with the Open University since 2014. I love all science and am passionate about supporting learners of all ages and abilities to achieve their best, while hopefully finding a bit of the magic in the subject along the way!

My approach is student centred, encouraging students to take responsibility for determining what support they need (with guidance for the unsure!) and building up confidence over time, filling in gaps as we go. Towards exam time of course the work focuses closely on syllabus knowledge and ample practice to refine exam technique.

I find the most common challenge students face is engaging effectively with courses as taught at school. This may come down to a number of factors, ranging from class dynamics, absence due to illness/anxiety, or classroom teaching that may not fully meet the students needs. Therefore my main focus is on enabling students to do the work, and feel confident about their abilities. My sessions provide a safe and supportive atmosphere where no question is too daft and the focus is constantly on the path of learning towards the best results. I enjoy the subjects I tutor and I encourage my students to feel the same!
