Information about Matt

I am an Oxford Graduate with a First Class Degree in Music (BA). I have 5 years of teaching experience, including a variety of ages and abilities. I am happy to teach English Language and Literature up to A Level and Music up to Degree Level. I will also coach students through 7+, 11+ and 13+, and through UCAS and Oxbridge Applications. I also teach drums, piano, violin and Music Theory up to Grade 8 Standard.

Undergraduate Music:
I can cover areas of Music Theory, Counterpoint and Fugue, Analysis, History, Composition and Performance.

My teaching style is fluid and conversational, and I can tailor my teaching to specific needs. I aim for my students to develop and execute a clear and concise writing style. They will learn how to evaluate and critique ideas and sources in order to construct a confident argument that flows in an essay format. This is a crucial part of any humanities subject. I teach a in a methodical format, using exam guidelines and main topic themes to guide students through specific challenges. I will focus on written language techniques and presentation where necessary but I always encourage original thought. Regular feedback in written form will help the student or parent to keep track of their progress, but also act as a revision tool for use in future exercises.

Most students choose the option of weekly lessons in order to maintain momentum in their progress. Consolidation of ideas and exercises between tutorials will help a student to gain independence until they feel confident in their own skills.

A willingness to learn and work hard will help in these tutorials as writing based subjects are notoriously subjective. A collaborative approach will ensure the success that my students aspire to.
